Friday Freeski Finals Day
The freeski field returns to competition on Friday, March 20, to determine the first-ever freeski Snow League World Champions. Headlining the field are two-time Olympic halfpipe champion and current points leader Eileen Gu (CHN) and Olympic bronze medalist and men’s points leader Brendan Mackay (CAN).
While the freeski field regularly trains in the halfpipe at LAAX, The Snow League marks a monumental milestone with the top-tier freeski competition returning after a 15-year hiatus. Gu is thrilled at the opportunity to compete at LAAX: “I’m really looking forward to competing at LAAX—I’ve been getting major FOMO from the snowboarders for years so I’m looking forward to it.”
The women’s championship battle centers on two 22-year-olds—Gu and Olympic silver medalist Fanghui Li (CHN). Gu, with 100 points, holds a 28-point advantage ahead of Li, who sits on 72 points.
On the men’s side, the race is tighter. Mackay leads with 100 points, just 15 ahead of 17-year-old Luke Harrold (NZL) with 85 points, followed by Gus Kenworthy (GBR) with 72 points.
Competition opens with the quarterfinal rounds, featuring four men’s and four women’s head-to-head matchups. Each matchup follows a best-of-three format, with athletes required to drop in from opposite walls for their first two runs. The first athlete to win two runs advances to the semifinals and ultimately the final, where the inaugural Snow League freeski World Champions will be decided.
